Message

The field of biology has expanded from the traditional approaches of focusing on specific organisms and phenomena to utilizing data science approaches in the pursuit of obtaining a comprehensive understanding of life.

Introduction

Prof. Iwasaki was originally trained as a molecular biologist at Faculty of Science, the University of Tokyo.
Then, he changed his major to bioinformatics by envisioning that massive data will be flooded in biology, and obtained Ph.D. at Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, the University of Tokyo.
Afterwards, he became an Assistant Professor at Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute, the University of Tokyo and adopted field-science approaches.
After he served as an Associate Professor at Graduate School of Science, the University of Tokyo, he moved to Department of Integrated Biosciences as a Full Professor. Prof. Iwasaki aims at combining three powerful approaches of bioinformatics, molecular biology, and field sampling to seek for unexplored fields in biology.
