I had three mentors, Yoshinori Ohsumi, David Botstein, and Yasuhiro Anraku in my life. From Professor Ohsumi, who won the Nobel Prize in 2016, I learned "We should do research that no one else can do." From Professor Botstein, who won the Breakthrough Prize in Life Science in 2013, I learned the importance of quantitative analysis of yeast phenotypes. From Professor Anraku, who was my academic advisor, I learned a sincere attitude toward research. I would like to ask any students to learn various things with a good academic advisor.

Introduction

I have been studying the budding yeast, a unicellular eukaryote for a long time. I still think that there are many interesting things to study with this organism. Although its size is only a few microns, about 6000 genes are working together in the yeast cells. Interestingly, it can live in various environments. It is a very convenient, safe, and useful microorganism that has been bred by humankind for thousands of years. We have been having a hard time traveling with the laboratory member due to the corona-virus outbreak, but we used to go to the sake brewery every year before that. We have also been to a winery. By visiting the actual places for sake brewery, I believe that we can understand the value of yeast even more.
