General Guide to 2027 Entrance Examinations (Schedule A)

This is an outline of the 2027 Entrance Examination. Applicants must carefully read the “Guidelines for Applicants to the 2027 Master’s (Doctoral) Program” from the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences and the “Information on Applying to the Master’s (Doctoral) Program” (Applicant guide) from our department, which will be released in April 2026.
Please discuss your research thoroughly with your desired supervisor before applying. But please note that applicants are not permitted to contact faculty members after the application is closed.
Important Notes Regarding the English examination
- For the English exam, the TOEFL-ITP test, which was held at the Kashiwa campus until last year, has been discontinued.
- TOEFL-iBT Institutional Score Report address (GSFS will not be able to confirm your score if you use a code other than the below). DI (Designated Institution) code: “8001” Department code: “99”
- The application code for the TOEIC L&R score confirmation service for our department is "00027407." Please submit your TOEIC score through the score confirmation service. (Master's Program (Regular Admission) and Doctoral Program (Regular Admission & Special Selection for Applicants with Professions) only)
About Examinations
Master's Program (Regular Admission)
- The applicants must submit the electronic file of TOEIC L&R (only those conducted in Japan), TOEFL-iBT or IELTS Score Report. The deadline for submitting score reports is generally at the time of application. Please ensure you take tests early to meet the application deadline. For details, please refer to the Applicant Guide, which will be released in April 2026.
- The written exam for Specialized and fundamental biosciences and essay will be held at the Kashiwa Campus in late July 2026. Exam questions will be given in Japanese.
- The oral examination will be conducted at the Kashiwa Campus in late July 2026. Exam questions will be given in Japanese.
- No applications for Master's Program (Regular Admission) in Schedule B.
Master's Program (Applicants with Overseas Education)
- The applicants must submit the electronic file of TOEFL-iBT or IELTS Score Report. The deadline for submitting score reports is generally at the time of application. Please ensure you take tests early to meet the application deadline. For details, please refer to the Applicant Guide, which will be released in April.
- The oral examination will be conducted at the Kashiwa Campus in late July 2026 unless there are special circumstances.
- For Schedule B, details will be announced after the completion of Schedule A.
Doctoral Program (Regular admission and Special Selection for Applicants with Professions)
- The applicants must submit the TOEIC L&R (only those conducted in Japan), TOEFL-iBT or IELTS Score Report. The deadline for submitting score reports is generally at the time of application. Please ensure you take tests early to meet the application deadline. For details, please refer to the Applicant Guide, which will be released in April.
- The oral examination will be as follows:
- For applicants who applied under Schedule A and who wish to enroll in April 2027 (Japanese applicants and international applicants who do not plan to apply for a Certificate of Eligibility through this university) will be conducted online in late January 2027.
- For applicants who wish to enroll in October 2026 and have been approved in advance, the oral examination will be conducted online in late July 2026.
Doctoral Program (Applicants with Overseas Education)
- The applicants must submit the TOEFL-iBT or IELTS Score Report. The deadline for submitting score reports is generally at the time of application. Please ensure you take tests early to meet the application deadline. For details, please refer to the Applicant Guide, which will be released in April.
- The oral examination will be as follows:
- For applicants who applied under Schedule A and who wish to enroll in April 2027 (Japanese applicants and international applicants who do not plan to apply for a Certificate of Eligibility through this university) will be conducted online in late January 2027.
- For applicants who wish to enroll in October 2026 and have been approved in advance, the oral examination will be conducted online in late July 2026.
About online oral examination (Doctoral Program only)
- Applicants are responsible for preparing their internet environment for the online oral examination.
- The oral examination will be conducted using Zoom provided by Zoom Video Communications. Refer to the Zoom website for the system requirements.
- Applicants should prepare a personal computer with a camera, a microphone, and speakers. Smartphones or tablet devices are not allowed for taking the examination. Headphones or earphones are also not allowed for taking the examination.
About Applications
- Applications will be accepted through the online application site on the Graduate School's Admissions Information website.
- The application period and the examination fee are written in “Guidelines for Applicants to the 2027 Master’s (Doctoral) Program of Graduate School of Frontier Sciences” (available from the Graduate School's Admissions Information website). It will be uploaded in early April.
- Applicants for the Doctoral Course who do not have a master’s degree or a professional degree such as those who are expected to be graduated from a six-year undergraduate program in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, or pharmacy, need to be recognized by Graduate School of Frontier Sciences through individual screening of entrance qualifications, so please contact through the inquiry form on the Graduate School’s Admission Infomation website.
