Guide to Entrance Examinations

This is an outline of the 2026 Entrance Examination. Applicants must carefully read the “Guidelines for Applicants to the 2026 Master’s (Doctoral) Course” from the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences and the “Information on Applying to the Master’s (Doctoral) Course” from our department.

About Examinations

Master's Course (Regular Admission)

  • Specialized and fundamental biosciences, Essay examination will be conducted on the Kashiwa Campus of the University of Tokyo on July 29 (Tue), 2025.
  • For the English exam, applicants must choose one of the following three options: (1) To take the TOEFL-ITP only on July 29 (Tue), 2025 on Kashiwa Campus, (2) To submit a TOEFL-iBT Test Taker Score Report or TOEIC Listening & Reading Digital Official Score Certificate, or (3) Both to take the TOEFL-ITP and submit a TOEFL-iBT Test Taker Score Report or TOEIC Listening & Reading Digital Official Score Certificate. Please upload TOEFL-iBT Score or TOEIC Listening & Reading Digital Official Score Certificate by July 11 (Fri), 2025.
  • The oral examination will be conducted online on July 31 (Thu), 2025.
  • No applications for master's course (general selection) in Schedule B.

Master's Course (Oversea Education)

  • For the English exam, applicants must choose one of the following three options: (1) To take the TOEFL-ITP only on July 29 (Tue), 2025 on Kashiwa Campus, (2) To submit a TOEFL-iBT Test Taker Score Report only, or (3) Both to take the TOEFL-ITP and submit a TOEFL-iBT Test Taker Score Report. Please upload TOEFL-iBT Score by July 11 (Fri), 2025.
  • The oral examination will be conducted online on July 30 (Wed), 2025.
  • For Schedule B, the submission of TOEFL-iBT score sheet is required for the English examination. The deadline for submission of English score sheet for Schedule B is scheduled at early January. Details will be announced after the completion of Schedule A.

Doctor's Course

  • For the English exam, applicants must choose one of the following three options: (1) To take the TOEFL-ITP only on July 29 (Tue), 2025 on Kashiwa Campus, (2) To submit a TOEFL-iBT Test Taker Score Report only, or (3) Both to take the TOEFL-ITP and submit a TOEFL-iBT Test Taker Score Report. Please upload TOEFL-iBT Score by July 11 (Fri), 2025.
  • In case of applicants not required to undergo new entry procedures, the oral examination for applicants who wish to enroll in April 2026 will be conducted online in late January 2026.
  • In case of applicants required to undergo new entry procedures, the oral examination for applicants who wish to enroll in April 2026 will be conducted online on July 30 (Wed) or August 1 (Fri), 2025.
  • In case of applicants whose wish to enroll in October has been approved in advance, the oral examination will be conducted online on July 30 (Wed) or August 1 (Fri), 2025.

About Oral Examination (Online)

  • Applicants are responsible for preparing their internet environment for the online oral examination.
  • The oral examination will be conducted using Zoom provided by Zoom Video Communications. Refer to the Zoom website for the system requirements.
  • Applicants should prepare a personal computer with a camera, a microphone, and speakers. Smartphones or tablet devices are not allowed for taking the examination. Headphones or earphones are also not allowed for taking the examination.

About Applications

  • Applications are accepted through the Online Application Site (GSFS exam website, https://www.k.u-tokyo.ac.jp/en/exam/info/).
  • The application period and the examination fee are written in “Guidelines for Applicants to the 2026 Master’s (Doctoral) Course of Graduate School of Frontier Sciences”. 
  • Applicants for the Doctoral Course who do not have a master’s degree or a professional degree such as those who are expected to be graduated from a six-year undergraduate program in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, or pharmacy, need to be recognized by Graduate School of Frontier Sciences through individual screening of entrance qualifications, so please contact through the inquiry form on the Graduate School’s website.
