Guide to Entrance Examinations

This is an outline of the 2023 Entrance Examination Schedule B. Applicants must carefully read the “Guidelines for Applicants to the 2023 Master’s (Doctoral) Course” from the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences and the “Information on Applying to the Master’s (Doctoral) Course” from our department.

Please contact your potential supervising professors for more details, before you apply.

About Examinations

Master's Course (Ordinary)

  • Applicants for Ordinary Examination cannot apply for Schedule B (only for Schedule A).

Master's Course (Oversea Education)

  • Applicants must submit an electronic copy of a Test Taker Score Report of TOEFL-iBT® or TOEFL-iBT® Home Edition (former TOEFL iBT® Special Home Edition) by January 16 (Mon), 2023.
  • The oral examination will be conducted online on January 30 (Mon) to February 1 (Wed), 2023 (any one of these days). Applicants will be inquired also about knowledge of basic life science and biology.

Doctor's Course

  • Applicants must submit an electronic copy of a Test Taker Score Report of TOEFL-iBT® or TOEFL-iBT® Home Edition (former TOEFL iBT® Special Home Edition) by January 16 (Mon), 2023.
  • The oral examination will be conducted online on January 30 (Mon) to February 1 (Wed), 2023 (any one of these days). It includes a presentation of the master’s thesis (or its equivalent).

About Oral Examination (Online)

  • Applicants are responsible for preparing their internet environment for the online oral examination.
  • The oral examination will be conducted using Zoom provided by Zoom Video Communications. Refer to the Zoom website for the system requirements.
  • Applicants should prepare a personal computer with a camera, a microphone, and speakers. Smartphones or tablet devices are not allowed for taking the examination. Headphones or earphones are also not allowed for taking the examination.

* Applicants will be inquired about the rationale for applying, comprehension of applicants’ current and past studies, and communication capability. Applicants will also be inquired about knowledge of basic life science and biology.
** The oral examination for the applicants who wish to enroll in April 2023 will be held during schedule B.
 

About Applications

  • Applications are accepted through the Online Application Site (GSFS exam website, https://www.k.u-tokyo.ac.jp/en/exam/info/).
  • The application period and the examination fee are written in “Guidelines for Applicants to the 2023 Master’s (Doctoral) Course of Graduate School of Frontier Sciences”. 
  • The applicant eligibility for the Ordinary Examination and Special Selection for Applicants with Professions is described in the "Guidelines for Applicants to the 2023 Master’s (Doctoral) Course of Graduate School of Frontier Sciences". Those who are expected to be graduated from a six-year undergraduate program may need to be recognized by the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences through individual screening of entrance qualifications, so please check the Guidelines.

  • Application Information Sheets (Master's Course)

  • Both Applicant Information Sheet for Master's Course (1) and (2) should be submitted after being converted to PDF files. 
    Applicants can change the font size of the columns they fill out themselves.

    Applicants for the Master's course who apply under Special Selection for Applicants with Overseas Education must submit a "CERTIFICATE OF CONTACT" at the time of application.

  • Application Information Sheets (Doctoral Course)

  • Both Applicant Information Sheet for Doctoral Course (1) and (2) should be submitted after being converted to PDF files. 
    Applicants can change the font size of the columns they fill out themselves.

  • The following "Check Sheet" are to assist applicants in the online application. Applicants do not need to submit these forms.
